Personalised Signs: A Guide to Custom Wooden Signs for Home and Business

A personalised sign is a sign engraved with your own choice of wording, name, business or logo, rather than a fixed off-the-shelf message. At Cherry Grove Craft we laser-engrave personalised wooden signs to order in our workshop in Buckley, North Wales — for the home, for gifts and for business. What is a personalised sign?

Personalised signs let you decide exactly what the sign says. Instead of buying a generic message, you add a room name, a family name, a business name and logo, or a custom line of text, and we engrave it onto wood. Because each sign is made to order, no two have to be the same — you can order a single sign for the home or a matching set for a business, each with different wording.

What you can have engraved

Most designs let you add:

• Custom text or a short message
• A name or family name

• A QR code, on our QR code signs

Add your wording in the personalisation box at checkout, and upload a logo using the logo upload button where it appears. Black-and-white logos engrave best, and most colour logos can be converted to a clean single-tone engraving.

What our signs are made from

We use three materials, chosen to suit the design:

• 4mm oak veneered MDF — our most popular material, giving a consistent, even engraved finish. A Danish oil finish is available on selected oak veneer designs.
• FSC-certified Moso bamboo — used on selected designs, with natural grain variation. Our bamboo is sourced from a Chain-of-Custody certified manufacturer (certificate RINA-COC-001256).
• Solid oak — used on our freestanding Block range, cut from 20mm solid oak for a substantial desk or counter sign.

All of our signs are designed for indoor use.

Personalised signs for the home

For the home, personalised signs work as door and room signs, family signs, and gifts for birthdays, weddings and new homes. Personalised signs for business

For business, a personalised sign carries your name and logo at the door, on the counter or on the desk. The range includes business signs, reversible open and closed signs, and QR code signs for reviews, menus, WiFi and social media. Hospitality venues, salons, clinics, schools and clubs all use them to put a consistent, branded look in front of customers.

Sizes and hanging

Most personalised signs come in a choice of sizes — commonly four, from around 100mm up to about 270mm wide — supplied with jute string for hanging. Freestanding desk and shelf versions are available across many designs, with larger A4 and A5 formats on selected signs. The product page for each sign lists its exact sizes and options.

Ordering personalised signs in bulk

Bulk orders are fully self-serve. Discounts apply automatically at checkout, with no codes and no need to ask for a quote:

• 20 units — 10%
• 50 units — 15%
• 100 units — 20%
• 250 units — 25%
• 500 units — 30%
• 1,000 units — 35%

If you need several different wordings within one order — for example a set of named signs, or staff name badges to match — list each one in the personalisation box and we'll engrave them individually.

2. Add your wording in the personalisation box, and upload a logo using the logo upload button where available.
3. Add to basket. Bulk discounts apply automatically from 20 units.

Proofs aren't provided as standard. If you'd like to approve a layout before we engrave, just ask in the personalisation box and we'll send one over.

Dispatch and delivery

All signs are made to order, so dispatch time is shown at checkout. UK orders are sent via Royal Mail Tracked 24, and international orders via Royal Mail International Tracked. We currently ship to the UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Switzerland.

Frequently asked questions

Do personalised signs make good gifts?
Yes. Because you choose the wording, a personalised sign is an easy way to make a gift specific to someone — a name, a date, an inside joke or a new home address. Many of our home and occasion designs are bought as gifts.

Can I order one sign, or do I have to buy a set?
You can order a single sign. There's no minimum — order one for the home, or scale up to a bulk order for a business, with discounts starting automatically at 20 units.

Will the engraving look exactly like my logo?
Engraving is single-tone, burned into the wood rather than printed in colour. Black-and-white logos transfer best, and most colour logos can be converted. If you're unsure, ask for a proof in the personalisation box.

Are personalised signs suitable for outdoors?
No. Our signs are made from oak veneered MDF, bamboo and solid oak, and are designed for indoor use only.

How long do they take to make?
Each sign is made to order, so the current dispatch time is always shown at checkout before you pay.
