Bamboo is a grass that regrows from its own roots after harvest. It engraves darker than oak, shows more grain variation from piece to piece, and is water-resistant, where oak veneered MDF cannot tolerate damp at all, though bamboo is not waterproof.
What's in this collection
3mm or 5mm
The original 3mm bamboo suits badges, coasters and smaller keyrings. Pressure across the grain can split it, so we added a 5mm range for items that take knocks: five hotel door hangers, a 200 x 80mm XL keyring and a 100 x 50mm business keyring, a size 3mm could not support. Our 5mm bamboo article explains why.
Certification
Our bamboo is supplied under FSC Chain of Custody certificate BV-COC-190523, which you can quote in CSR or procurement reporting and check on the FSC public database. Cherry Grove Craft is not itself an FSC certificate holder; the certificate sits with our supply chain. Our oak veneered MDF is FSC-certified too, but bamboo is the material with a certificate number we can quote (BV-COC-190523).

Frequently asked questions
Is your bamboo certified, and can I check it?
Yes. It is FSC-certified Moso bamboo supplied under Chain of Custody certificate BV-COC-190523, a number you can quote and check on the FSC public database.
Should I choose 3mm or 5mm bamboo?
5mm for items handled or knocked every day, such as door hangers and keys; 3mm for badges, coasters and smaller keyrings.
Is bamboo waterproof?
No. It is water-resistant, so it copes with steam and splashes that would damage oak veneered MDF, but it is not waterproof. The range is made for indoor use; 5mm bamboo can be fixed outdoors, though it will green without regular cleaning, so get in touch before ordering a sign for outside.
Is bamboo oiled like oak?
No. Bamboo is left with its natural surface; Danish oil is offered on oak only.
