A 2-hour hands-on laser cutting and engraving training session with Pete — the person behind Cherry Grove Craft. Whether you're thinking about starting a laser business, just bought your first machine and want to get up to speed quickly, or you're already running a laser business and want to improve specific skills, the session is tailored to what you actually need.

Training takes place in Pete's workshop in North Wales — approximately 8 miles from Chester — or via video call if you're too far to travel. In-person is better, but the video call option works well and covers the same ground.

What's covered in the 2 hours

Sessions are built around your goals, but typically cover some or all of the following depending on where you are:

  • Machine setup, maintenance and safety
  • Software — design, settings and file preparation
  • Materials — what works, what doesn't, and why
  • Power and speed settings for different jobs
  • Hands-on engraving and cutting during the session

Options

  • In-person workshop — 2 hours at Pete's North Wales workshop
  • Video call — Microsoft Teams or WhatsApp. Same duration, same content.

How to book

Use the contact page to get in touch. Briefly describe where you are with laser engraving and what you're hoping to get out of the session, and Pete will come back to you to arrange a time.

FAQ

Do I need to bring anything?
For in-person sessions — nothing. The workshop has everything needed. For video call sessions, it helps to have your own machine set up and running so Pete can observe and guide in real time.

What skill level is this suitable for?
All levels. Complete beginners get a structured introduction covering setup, software and first projects. More experienced operators tend to focus on specific problems — material settings, software workflows, troubleshooting.

What type of laser machines do you cover?
Pete works with CO2 lasers — the most common type for engraving and cutting wood, acrylic and leather. If you have a diode laser, get in touch and Pete will advise whether the session is suitable for your setup.

Is 2 hours enough?
For most people, yes — a focused 2-hour session covering the right ground moves things on significantly. If you need more time or want to cover additional topics, follow-up sessions can be arranged.

Is the video call as good as in person?
In person is better — Pete can demonstrate directly on the machine and you get hands-on time. But the video call option covers the same content and works well, particularly for software and settings questions.

Do you offer any other business or consultancy services?
Yes — separately from this training course, Pete offers consultancy on laser business setup, Shopify, Etsy, SEO, pricing and photography. Get in touch to discuss.

Materials & Care

Our products are made from natural materials, including:

Oak veneered MDF – ideal for indoor use, not suitable for damp or outdoor environments

Bamboo – more water resistant and suitable for items like name badges, but lightweight and not recommended for outdoor signage in windy conditions

To ensure longevity, we recommend keeping all items dry and avoiding prolonged exposure to moisture.

Will I see a proof?
