WiFi Signs: How They Work and Which to Choose
A WiFi sign puts your network name and password where guests can find them, so they can get online without asking. These wooden WiFi signs are made for cafes, coffee shops, hotels, B&Bs, holiday lets, offices and home guest rooms - laser-engraved on oak and finished to sit on a table or hang on a wall.
How a WiFi QR code sign works
Each QR code sign carries a code that stores your network name and password. A guest opens their phone camera, points it at the code, and taps the prompt to join - no typing and no app to download. The phone connects to your network automatically.
QR scanning works with the built-in camera on iPhone (iOS 11 and later) and most modern Android phones. A few older Android phones may need a free QR reader app. You supply your network name and password in the personalisation box at checkout and we generate the code for you.
The four types - and when to choose each
| Type | Best for | How it updates |
|---|---|---|
| QR auto-connect | Guests who want to join in one tap | New sign needed if the password changes |
| Engraved text | A permanent display of the network name and password | Fixed once engraved |
| Reusable whiteboard | Places where the password changes often | Wipe and rewrite with a marker |
| Reusable chalkboard | The same, with a chalk-panel look | Wipe and rewrite with chalk or a chalk pen |
Many venues combine both ideas: the network name is engraved permanently and the password sits on a wipe-clean panel, so a QR code or fixed text handles the join while the panel covers changes.
Formats and materials
- Freestanding or wall-mounted - freestanding signs sit on a table with a removable base; wall signs mount by the door or reception.
- Oak veneer or solid oak - most signs are laser-engraved on 4mm oak veneered MDF. The Solid Oak WiFi Block is cut from solid oak for a heavier tabletop piece.
- Portrait or landscape - reusable whiteboard and chalkboard signs come in A4 portrait or landscape.
- With or without a logo - add your logo to any sign in the personalisation box; upload a black-and-white version for the cleanest engraving.
All WiFi signs are for indoor use.
Which WiFi sign for your setting
- Cafe or coffee shop - a freestanding QR code sign on the counter lets customers join in seconds.
- Hotel or B&B - a branded QR sign with your logo at reception or in each room keeps things consistent.
- Holiday let or Airbnb - a reusable whiteboard sign lets you rewrite the password between guests.
- Office or co-working space - a QR or text sign gives visitors guest access without a support ticket.
- Home guest room - a small QR or chalkboard sign saves reading the password off the back of the router.
Common questions
Does the QR code work on every phone? It works with the camera on iPhone (iOS 11 and later) and most modern Android phones. Older Android phones may need a free QR reader app.
What happens when my WiFi password changes? A QR or engraved sign is fixed to the details supplied, so a password change needs a new sign. If your password changes often, choose a reusable whiteboard or chalkboard sign and rewrite it whenever it changes.
How do you make the QR code? You enter your network name and password in the personalisation box at checkout and we generate the code and set the artwork for you.
Can I add my logo? Yes - upload your logo in the personalisation box. A black-and-white logo engraves most cleanly; most colour logos convert well.
Can I order more than one? Yes. Bulk discounts apply automatically at the checkout, so multi-room and multi-site orders are straightforward.
