Wooden Hospitality Signs: A Practical Guide for Hotels, Cafés and Restaurants
Share
If you manage a hotel, café, restaurant or holiday let, you already know that signs do more work than most people give them credit for. The right sign stops a guest from walking into a meeting room. The right door hanger means housekeeping doesn't wake someone up at 7am. The right QR code sign at a table doubles as a menu, a review prompt and a WiFi instruction in one hit.
This guide covers what wooden hospitality signs are available, which material works best in different environments, and how to order with your logo.
Why wooden signs work in hospitality environments
Plastic signs look cheap next to oak flooring and linen tablecloths. Acrylic fades under UV. Printed paper curls at the edges within a fortnight.
4mm oak veneered MDF laser-engraved with your logo sits at the other end of that spectrum. The engraving is permanent — it's cut into the wood, not printed onto it — and the finish is consistent across a bulk order of 50 room signs or 200 door hangers. For hospitality businesses that care about the guest experience from the moment they check in, that consistency matters.
FSC-certified Moso bamboo (certificate RINA-COC-001256) is the alternative for properties with a sustainability brief. It machines cleanly, engraves with sharp contrast, and carries the FSC certification that some procurement teams require as a condition of supply.
Both materials are for indoor use only. If you need outdoor signage — garden direction signs, terrace markers — get in touch and we'll discuss options.
The signs most hospitality businesses order
Hotel door hangers
The classic two-sided door hanger: Do Not Disturb on one face, Please Service My Room (or Refresh & Renew) on the other. Available in oak or bamboo, with rectangular or rounded-top profiles. You can add your property logo to both faces.
Bulk orders from 20 units qualify for automatic discounts at checkout — the discount is applied by the quantity in your basket, no code required.

Facility and room identification signs
Reception, Restaurant, Bar, Spa, Gym, Meeting Room, Lift, Toilets — wayfinding signs that mount on walls or hang from doors. Available in four sizes from 102mm up to 270mm wide. Jute string hanging loop included; wall mounting works with small adhesive pads or picture hooks on the pre-drilled holes.
A set of room identification signs in matching oak across a boutique hotel creates a coherent visual identity at very low cost per unit compared with bespoke machined signage.

Open and closed signs
A double-sided oak hanging sign with Open on one face and Closed on the other. Four sizes; option to add your business name or logo. Popular with independent cafés, boutique shops and hotel restaurants that want something that looks the part rather than a plastic flip sign from a stationery catalogue.

QR code table signs
Freestanding QR code signs in oak, supplied with a weighted base. Used for digital menus, Google review prompts, TripAdvisor links, WiFi codes and contactless payment links. You supply the URL; we generate the QR code and engrave it alongside your logo. One sign on each table replaces printed menus, paper WiFi cards and review request slips.

Staff name badges
Oak or bamboo name badges engraved with each staff member's name, job title and your property logo. Available in eight sizes from 65×15mm up to 100×30mm, with pin, magnetic or pin-and-clip fastening. Eco lanyards available for front-of-house and conference staff.
Bulk discounts apply automatically from 20 units. For a 40-room hotel with 15 front-of-house staff, a full set of badges with logo typically costs less than a single set of embroidered uniform patches.

Food allergy and policy signs
Since Natasha's Law came into force in October 2021, food businesses must declare allergens for pre-packaged food. A clear, permanent allergen notice sign at your counter or service point is part of meeting that obligation visibly. We make these in A4 and A5 oak with space for your logo.

No smoking signs
Wall-mounted or freestanding no smoking and no vaping signs in oak. Required by law in enclosed workplaces and vehicles. The wooden version simply looks better than the statutory plastic minimum — useful if your entrance, reception or outdoor seating area is part of the guest experience.

How to order with your logo
Every product that accepts a logo has an Upload Your Logo button on the product page. Black and white artwork gives the cleanest engraving result — if you only have a colour logo, send it and we'll assess it. Most colour logos convert without issue; heavily photographic artwork or very fine gradients occasionally need simplification, and we'll tell you before we cut anything.
For bulk orders across multiple sign types — a full hotel package of door hangers, room signs, name badges and QR code table signs — add everything to your basket and the bulk discount applies per product line. Or email us with a list and we'll confirm what's involved before you commit.

Frequently asked questions
Can I order a mixed set — some oak and some bamboo?
Yes — add both to your basket. The materials don't need to match across your order, though most properties choose one for visual consistency.
Do you offer proofs before production?
Proofs are not provided as standard. If you need to see a layout before we cut a large run, note it in the personalisation box and we'll discuss it.
What if I need a sign that isn't listed?
We make custom signs to order. Add what you need in the personalisation box on any similar product, or contact us to discuss.
Are the signs suitable for outdoor use?
No — oak veneered MDF and bamboo are for indoor use only. For outdoor applications, solid oak with an oil or varnish finish is the appropriate material.
