Wooden Hospitality Signs: A Practical Guide for Hotels, Cafés and Restaurants

Hospitality signs are the small, guest-facing signs a hotel, café, restaurant, bar or holiday let needs to run without a member of staff explaining things: door hangers, room and facility signs, open/closed and opening hours signs, QR code table signs for menus, WiFi and reviews, staff name badges, allergen notices and no-smoking signs. Why engraved wood in a hospitality setting

Plastic looks out of place next to oak flooring and linen; acrylic fades under UV; printed paper curls within a fortnight. A laser-engraved sign has the wording cut into the wood — nothing printed, nothing laminated — so it reads the same after years of handling, and a batch of 50 room signs or 200 door hangers comes out uniform. FSC-certified 4mm oak veneered MDF gives a consistent dark contrast and is the lower-priced option; FSC-certified Moso bamboo (certificate BV-COC-190523) is paler, tolerates occasional damp better, and gives a certificate number to quote in sustainability reporting. Both are plastic-free, and orders are dispatched without plastic packaging. All are for indoor use.

Double-sided: Do Not Disturb on one face, Please Clean the Room, Refresh & Renew or Please Make Up My Room on the other, with your logo on either face. Oak in square-top, rounded-top and vertical layouts; bamboo in 3mm and 5mm. Classic formats are 203×89mm or 210×89mm with a 51mm hole; wide and open-hook versions fit large handles. Facility and room identification signs

Reception, Restaurant, Bar, Spa, Gym, Meeting Room, Lift, Toilets — nameplate-format room signs in four sizes from 200×50mm to 580×146mm, wall-mounted through pre-drilled holes or a plain back for your own adhesive pads, and direction signs with arrows in four sizes on jute string. QR code table signs

Freestanding oak QR code signs with a wooden base, for digital menus, Google review prompts, TripAdvisor links, WiFi auto-connect and contactless payment links. You supply the URL in the personalisation box; we generate the code and engrave it with your logo. One sign per table replaces printed menus, WiFi cards and review slips. Staff name badges

Oak or bamboo badges engraved with each person's first name, role and your logo, in eight sizes from 65×15mm, with magnetic, pin or pin-and-clip fastening and lanyard formats for events. Food allergy and policy signs

UK food businesses must provide allergen information for the 14 regulated allergens on everything they serve; Natasha's Law (October 2021) added full ingredient labelling for food prepacked for direct sale. A permanent notice at the counter asking customers to tell staff about allergies, with the information available on request, is how most venues meet the duty to inform visibly. No smoking signs

How to order with your logo

Every product that takes a logo has a logo upload button on the product page. Logos can be colour or black and white — we will convert colour logos for engraving. If there is a problem, we will get in touch. Wording, names and room numbers go in the personalisation box. For a full venue order — door hangers, room signs, name badges and table signs — add each product to the basket; bulk discounts apply automatically at checkout, with no code, and count units of the same product: 20 units 10%, 50 units 15%, 100 units 20%, 250 units 25%, 500 units 30%, 1,000 units 35%. Lead times and delivery

All items are made to order. Dispatch time is shown at checkout. UK orders via Royal Mail Tracked 24. International via Royal Mail International Tracked. Dispatch time varies with order size and is shown before you pay; for an opening date, add it in the personalisation box.

Frequently asked questions

Can I order a mixed set — some oak and some bamboo?
Yes — add both to your basket. Most venues choose one material for visual consistency, but nothing requires it.

Do you offer proofs before production?
Proofs are not provided as standard. If you need to see a layout before a large run, ask in the personalisation box and we will send one.

What if I need a sign that isn't listed?
Most signs take your own wording in the personalisation box, and the reversible door hangers and direction signs take any text. For something outside the range, use the contact page before ordering.

Are wooden hospitality signs suitable for outdoor use?
They are for indoor use. A sheltered doorway or covered terrace is fine; a fully exposed wall is not. Bamboo tolerates occasional damp better than oak veneered MDF, which is why kitchens and wet areas tend to choose it.

Do FSC-certified signs help with Green Key or Green Tourism?
Yes, as evidence of eco-labelled purchasing. FSC is a recognised eco-label. Green Key's hotel criteria include an imperative supplier-engagement criterion (13.4), a guideline for at least five purchased products arriving without plastic packaging (6.18) and eco-labelled refurbishment materials (9.5), and the 2026–2031 criteria make a written Sustainable Procurement Policy imperative; Green Tourism scores sustainable procurement in the same way.
