Frequently asked questions
Can I add my logo?
Yes — upload it with the logo upload button when ordering and it engraves on both faces with the Ar Agor / Ar Gau wording. Simple, high-contrast logos work best; on the Small size space is limited, so our free design service will confirm what fits before anything is cut.
What do Ar Agor and Ar Gau mean?
Ar Agor means "open" and Ar Gau means "closed" in Welsh. The sign is double-sided, so you simply turn it round — the same way an English open and closed sign works.
Is the English wording on it too?
This version carries the Welsh wording, which is instantly understood alongside the familiar open/closed sign format. If you'd prefer English wording, see our standard open and closed sign. Tell us in the personalisation box if you want both languages on one face and we'll advise on what fits at each size.
Do Welsh businesses have to display bilingual signage?
Not generally. Welsh Language Standards under the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 place duties on public bodies — councils, health boards, schools and colleges — rather than on private shops and cafés. Most private businesses in Wales use bilingual signage by choice, as a mark of local identity. Bilingual wording is a genuine legal requirement in a narrower case: no-smoking signage at school grounds, hospital grounds and public playgrounds, which carries fixed statutory English/Welsh text under separate regulations. An ordinary café or shop's no-smoking sign only needs the crossed-cigarette symbol — no wording requirement at all.
Can I have my business name engraved on it?
Yes — add it in the personalisation box. It engraves alongside the Ar Agor wording, with or without a logo.

Materials & Care
Materials & Care
Our products are made from natural materials, including:
• Oak veneered MDF – ideal for indoor use, not suitable for damp or outdoor environments
• Bamboo – more water resistant and suitable for items like name badges, but lightweight and not recommended for outdoor signage in windy conditions
To ensure longevity, we recommend keeping all items dry and avoiding prolonged exposure to moisture.
