Which payment sign do I need?

You take both but would rather have cash — the Cash Preferred wording, worded as a request, in four formats:

• Cash Preferred Please — hanging: four sizes from 102×74mm to 270×190mm on a jute loop, for a wall or door.
• Cash Preferred — freestanding: 74×112mm or 115×168mm in a removable base, for the counter.
• Cash Preferred — XL freestanding: 164×235mm, for a busy stall or long counter.
• Cash Preferred — A5 or A4: landscape panel with an optional stand, the largest format.

You no longer take cash:

• Card Payments Only — freestanding: the clearest phrasing for most customers; custom wording available.
• Cashless Payments Only — freestanding: plain text, "we accept card and contactless"; custom wording available.
• Cashless Payments — framed icon design: fixed design for bars, restaurants and boutiques.

You need to show customers where to pay:

• Please Pay Here — hanging: four sizes, standard or custom text.
• Please Pay Here — freestanding: two sizes, logo upload.
• Please Pay Here — XL freestanding: 164×235mm, logo upload.

Where to put a payment sign

Before the transaction, not at it. In a shop the counter works; in a café, pub or salon the bill comes after the service, so the sign belongs on the door, the table or the menu as well as the till. A card minimum goes on the sign too — a minimum nobody was told about is the most common flashpoint.

Materials and formats

• Material: FSC-certified 4mm oak veneered MDF, laser-engraved — the wording cannot fade or peel.
• Hanging signs: two pre-drilled holes and a jute string loop; Small 102×74mm, Medium 158×115mm, Large 225×164mm, Extra Large 270×190mm.
• Freestanding signs: Standard 74×112mm or Large 115×168mm, single or double-sided, in a removable base; XL 164×235mm.
• A5 and A4 signs: 210×148mm or 297×210mm landscape, with or without a push-fit stand.
• Use: indoor, or on a sheltered stall table — never left out in rain.

Personalisation

Standard wording is engraved as shown on each product page. Most signs accept your own wording through the personalisation box — "Cash Preferred, Card Accepted", "Card Minimum £5", "No Cash Please". Where a logo upload button is shown, black-and-white artwork engraves most cleanly. Proofs are not sent as standard; ask in the personalisation box if you need one.

Frequently asked questions

Can a UK business legally refuse cash?
Yes. No UK legislation requires a business to accept cash or any other payment method; the Government confirmed in June 2025 it has no plans to change that. The same freedom lets a business refuse cards or set a card minimum.

Is a "cash preferred" sign allowed?
Yes. Asking customers to pay cash is a request, not a refusal of cards. Word it as a request and place it where it is read before ordering.

Do I have to display a sign if I don't take cash?
There is no law requiring one. It is the difference between a payment policy the customer agreed to and one they discovered at the till — which matters most where the bill comes after the service.

Can I change the wording?
On most signs, yes — type your wording in the personalisation box. The framed cashless design is fixed.

Will the signs survive a market stall?
On the table under a gazebo, yes, all season. Left out overnight or standing in rain, no — the MDF core swells. Pack signage down with the stock.

Is there a minimum order?
